One of the top questions we get from guests is where they should dine. A lot of times guests arrive early to check-in and ask for cozy spots to grab lunch before their room is ready. We have several favorite spots in town that we like to recommend that are within walking distance from the Inn, so our guests can leave their car and luggage at the Inn and walk to a waterfront or Main Street restaurant.
The Impudent Oyster is always high on our list. With delicious seafood creations in a unique dining atmosphere, this restaurant is located just off of Main Street. It’s about a ten-to-fifteen-minute walk from the Inn. The restaurant started its life back in 1972 and will celebrate its 50th Anniversary next year! One of the unique features of the Impudent Oyster is the beautiful stained-glass window that is from a Dutch Reform Church in Waldoboro, ME. This beautiful window lets in colorful lights during the lunch rush. Lunch is served between 11:30 am until 3 pm. The other unique spot is the beautiful bar where you can grab a delicious cocktail while you are waiting to be seated in the open dining room. You are sure to have great service from the moment you walk in the door, up until the moment you depart. The lunch menu is extensive, and they always have a fresh catch of the day as a delicious option. One of our favorites is the Thai Fishermanās Stew, which is fresh fish simmered with local clams, mussels, lobster, scallops, veggies in Thai ginger and coconut broth. They have some of the best clam chowder on Main Street and donāt forget to try their Vermont Butternut Bisque soup! They will gladly give you the recipe. Either has it as your meal or as a starter and then have their delightful Lobster Roll or Cape Fish-wich as your main course.
Macās Chatham Fish and Lobster, a true landmark. Chatham Fish and Lobster has been in the seafood business for over 35 years providing the highest quality of fresh seafood. Macās Seafood is the extension of the fish market business that offers indoor and outdoor dining year-round. They offer a classic yet creative menu with delicious local specialties such as steamed lobster, lobster roll, fish & chips, clam chowder, and many more. We love their whole belly clam plate, the fishermanās platter, and lobster gnocchi Fra Diavolo. Also, make sure you check their daily specials and amazing gluten-free fried food. They also offer a great selection of local beer and wine. They are open daily from 11 am until 8 pm.
Chatham Pier Fish Market located right on the water with Chatham waves crashing at the pier and a classic New England menu is as authentic as it gets. While you eat, watch fishermen unload the day’s catch and laugh as sassy seals entertain you nearby. The food is fresh, the outdoor seating with adorable picnic tables with waterfront views, and the best lobster roll in town is maybe what you need after the long drive to Cape Cod.
Bistro on Main is another great option for outdoor lunch in town. Located just a short 5-minute walk from the Inn this Main Street Restaurant offers casual dining and a world-class raw bar. This local’s favorite bistro and bar has been in business since 1991. Whether you choose to sit in their large dining room, outdoor patio, or nautical-inspired Raw Bar, you will enjoy an amazing selection of local seafood, premium spirits, wine, and beer. The friendly staff and relaxed, intimate setting off Main Street would be perfect for a casual lunch on a hot summer day.
During the season on Cape Cod, lunch is on a first-come, first-served basis, and a takeout is always an option. If you do decide you donāt feel like fighting the crowds, pick up your meal and take it to one of the nearby beaches for a seaside picnic, or bring it back to the Inn and dine on our beautiful patio. No matter which option you pick, you are sure to enjoy these Chatham staples!
