Check out the full list here! No stress, no clean-up – only relaxation! After your pumpkin pie, there is nothing better than walking your food off at a local beach and enjoying the peace and quiet Cape Cod offers at this time of the year,
4. Visit the Pilgrim Monument in ProvincetownÂ
Did you know that Provincetown is the site of the Mayflower landing and Plymouth, where Thanksgiving originated, is right across Cape Cod Bay? In 1620, 102 brave settlers left Plymouth, England, on a ship called the Mayflower, and made a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, Though it was not their intended destination, the settlers on the Mayflower, known historically as the Pilgrims, dropped anchor off the northern tip of Cape Cod, near modern-day Provincetown. To commemorate the historic Mayflower landing, the Cape Cod Pilgrim Monument lights up and it’s especially festive.
The Chatham Turkey Trot is a fun Thanksgiving morning run or walk over 3.1 miles of winding and rolling paved roads with breathtaking scenery in Chatham, Massachusetts, which benefits the Lower Cape Outreach Council. The Turkey Trot is held each year on Thanksgiving morning, and starts at 8 a.m. in the parking lot behind Chatham Orpheum Theatre, at the corner of Main St. & Stage Harbor Rd just steps from the Inn. The registration fee is $30/per person.
6. Explore Plymouth and Plymouth Patuxet
Plymouth is a picturesque town on Plymouth Bay, with a pretty harbor, beautiful beaches, cranberry bogs, and an abundance of activities during the fall. All of this is within a very easy drive from Cape Cod. Plymouth is also the site of the first Thanksgiving when, in 1621, the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians shared a 3-day feast to celebrate their first successful harvest. At historic Plimoth Patuxet, you can experience what that first Thanksgiving was like for the Pilgrims who came to live side by side with, and learn from, the Wampanoag Indians. The English Village is a re-creation of the settlement that existed in 1627. You will meet role-playing colonists who speak, act, and dress as the Pilgrims did then, and they always stay in character. Also, be sure to visit Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower.
